The Community Music Center has been providing music education since 1921 in both its Mission District headquarters and at various other locations throughout San Francisco. Group family music classes are offered for infants through three year olds (along with their caregivers) and the “Music for Children” (ages 4 to 7) class introduces kids to symphonic instruments alongside other activities, including games and creative movement. Older kids (ages 8 to 12) can join the Community Music Center’s Children’s Chorus, sign up for a Percussion Ensemble, or take group guitar lessons. There’s also a Youth Wind Ensemble (ages 10-16) and a Teen Jazz Orchestra.
There's a wide variety of private instrument classes are offered, including stringed instruments (recommended for age 4 and up), piano (recommended for age 6 and up), and a long list of other instruments (ages 8 and up).
