These picture books for ages two to eight are a wonderful representation for families with two moms or two dads and also perfect ways to introduce children without same-gender parents to the diversity of families. Some of these books specifically focus on how families with same-gender parents are special while others have other stories going on but the protagonist family has same-gender parents, but they all show the love and diversity of these families. 1. The Bread Pet: A Sourdough Story by Kate Depalma
This charming story follows Cora as she takes care of her uncle’s “bread pet” when he goes away. This pet that needs to be fed every day is actually a sourdough starter that grows exponentially and takes over the kitchen of Cora and her two moms. It’s a tale of community, baking, and learning that just happens to have same-gender parents in the background.
